Have you ever heard of Beta Club? If you haven’t, Beta Club, “recognizes high

academic achievement, promotes character and social responsibility, encourages service

involvement to school and community, fosters leadership skills, and provides settings for

students to develop interpersonal relationship skills.” That definition is a little wordy, but

basically they help out in the community and gives members valuable leadership skills.

I know you are all dying to know what Beta Club has been doing this fall, so keep

reading for a brief summary of some of the ways they have helped out in our community

recently.

Every year during See You at the Pole, hundreds of schools around the world meet at the

flagpole to pray together. According to their website, See You at the Pole is, “a prayer rally

where students meet at the school flagpole before school to lift up their friends, families,

teachers, school, and nation to God.” The event is student initiated, organized, and led. Parents, teachers and students are all invited to stop by and pray! Beta Club organized the event this year which took place all the way back on September 24th. They (Beta Club) led several groups in prayer that morning and it was a wonderful start to our day at SGA.

Did you see all of the teacher door decor a few weeks ago? That was all thanks to the

Beta Club and the wonderful Mrs. Payton for organizing the project! Our teachers work hard

every day (especially on Tuesdays) to teach us and answer all our questions. They always say there is no such thing as a dumb question...but we all know that is not true. The teachers at SGA do an amazing job of connecting with the students on a personal level to help with their individual learning needs and it was about time that we show some thanks to them! Every teacher had a poster on their door that was specific to them. They also had a manila envelope for students to stick encouraging notes in. It was a great day and a great way to show appreciation to our teachers. Thank you to all you amazing teachers!

Last but not least there was a United Hope 4 Children Babysitting night on November

15th. Foster families work hard to give help to kids who need it. However, no matter how good the kids are, sometimes they still need a break. That is exactly what the babysitting night at United Hope 4 Children was designed for. Several volunteers from our very own SGA Beta Club watched local foster kids so their parents could have a couple hours off. Now this might sound boring, but they made sure that the kids had fun. How you may ask? Well, the answer is a very long list of fun activities. To name a few, they played with trains, ate pizza, rode around in wagons, made pretend stores to sell stuff, and many other fun activities. Now if that isn’t fun, I don’t know what is. Overall it was a win-win situation. The parents got a couple hours to relax and the kids enjoyed an awesome playdate!

The SGA Beta Club has done some great things this semester and I can’t wait to see what

they will do during the rest of this school year!
