Reading books at the beach or while tanning is a whole experience, and what's better than knowing you are reading a good book? Here are some of my favorite summer book recs! In my opinion, these books are for all teens, but ask your parents before reading them.
Romance:
If you’re looking for a good series to start with, The Summer I Turned Pretty series by Jenny Han is a great series because it is set in the summer and the premise is that Belly goes to her mom’s close friend’s house every summer and has had a crush on Conrad for as long as she can remember. This summer, when she goes, both Conrad and Jeremiah (Conrad’s brother) recognize Belly and want to date her - but who will she choose? I also love this audiobook because it is read by the TV actor who plays Belly.
Another book that has a very fun, beachy feel is While We’re Young by K.L. Walther. I just read this book and it is SO fun. It’s based on the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and it stays very similar to that theme! The one thing to keep in mind if you choose to read this is that it is from four different perspectives and switches perspectives in every chapter. But that wasn’t a deal breaker for me because of how much I loved the characters and the plot!
Fantasy:
I tend not to like fantasy, but I have loved all of Marissa Meyer’s books, specifically Heartless. Heartless is about the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland and how she grew up into the Queen of Hearts. I personally love it when authors tell us the backstory of a well-known character, because I find it so interesting!
Adventure:
If you want a fun, breezy beach novel that also has a really fun plot, you should try Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson. Now, of course, the big downside of reading this book is that you will have to get past the fact that whenever you tell someone what you're reading, they will start singing “since you've been gone” at you. But once you get past that, this is a fun book about how Emily’s best friend made a list of crazy things that she has to do, and then she will be able to find out where her best friend went.
Thriller:
Silent Sister: This book is about how two sisters, Grace and Maddy, who go on a senior trip, and only Grace comes back, after a teacher finds her with no memory of anything that happened on the trip. She is the only one who is able to save her sister and figure out where she went.
New Releases!!!
Sunrise on the Reaping is out! I am so excited about this book! If you have read all of the other Hunger Games books, then you should definitely try reading this one this summer. This book is about Haymitch’s experience winning the Hunger Games.
My Return to the Walther Boys is out! I will definitely be buying the day it comes out because I loved My Life With the Walther Boys SO much. but when you read this article, the book will already be out! This book is about what happens after she leaves the Walthers for the summer and returns again, and she is still torn between whom to choose, whether it’s Cole or Alex.
(You can read more about these books on Goodreads.)
I hope you get some good beach reading in this summer and have a good break!
