Top Christmas Songs

Updated: Jul 5, 2022

Merry Christmas, y’all! It truly is the most wonderful time of the year-- there are trees, lights, cookies, gatherings, nativities, and presents.

But if you’re like me, one of the things that gets you the most excited about December is the Christmas music! I love holiday tunes with a passion, and I know a lot of you guys do, too (except for those of you who hate on Christmas music, but I’m going to ignore you guys, because that’s depressing). So we did a survey where we asked you to rank your favorite Christmas songs from 1 to 10.

Here are the results:

  1. “Mary Did You Know” was the top song

  2. “O Holy Night”

  3. “Silent Night”

  4. “All I Want for Christmas is You

  5. “Jingle Bells/Jingle Bell Rock”

  6. “Feliz Navidad”

  7. “Little Drummer Boy”

  8. “Carol of the Bells”

  9. “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”

  10. Do You See What I See?” was last

“Noel”, “O Come O Come Emmanuel”, “Santa Baby”, “Little Saint Nick”, and “Come Our King” also received votes.

Not going to lie, as I was tallying up and weighing the votes (which was a lot of math, geez) I got sad every time someone gave any song a last place vote. Honestly, I love all Christmas songs so much (except the sad ones because they make me mad- it’s Christmas, we’re supposed to be happy), so I decided to make my own ranking of Christmas songs below. I did my Top 15 because there is no way I could only pick 10. Personally, I love a lot of newer, nontraditional songs, but I made sure to blend in some classic tunes as well :)

This is in no particular order:

  1. Go Tell It On The Mountain (Big Daddy Weave version)

  2. Come On, Christmas (Matthew West)

  3. Do You See What I See? (Whitney Houston and Carrie Underwood both crush it)

  4. What Christmas Means to Me (John Legend and Stevie Wonder)

  5. All I Want for Christmas is You (you either love it or hate it!)

  6. Christmastime (Michael W. Smith)

  7. Mary Did You Know? (Pentatonix!)

  8. The First Noel (TobyMac version)

  9. Carol of the Bells

  10. Christmas Is (Francesca Battistelli)

  11. What Child is This?

  12. This Boy (Steven Curtis Chapman)

  13. Because It’s Christmas (Sidewalk Prophets)

  14. Santa Claus Is Coming to Town (Bruce Springstein or Jackson 5)

  15. Can’t Wait for Christmas (TobyMac)

So, if you get tired of listening to Mariah Carey 20 million times this Christmas, you can check out some of the lesser-known songs on my list.

Well, that wraps up this article! I hope you guys had fun voting and seeing what people around SGA had to say. And I hope that at some point this December, you take time to dance around your room like a crazy person to the best musical genre ever :)
