With the addition of sports to the Scholars Guild portfolio, the Guild Gazette decided that interviewing the senior varsity team members of each of the sports teams would be a great way to bring recognition to the senior nights happening around the Guild. So for the 23-24 season, the Guild Gazette will present a short article right before senior night highlighting these seniors in their final year at SGA. We encourage everyone to come out and support our seniors on their special night!
First up, girls volleyball. Volleyball was the first sport to start at SGA and has hit the ground running. Starting with optional workouts, roster invitations sent out in June, and a season officially beginning in July, this team has been working incredibly hard all season long. There are a total of six senior girls on the team, some of whom are familiar faces, and others who are new this year to SGA. The team is getting ready to compete in the regional competition and has a tournament right around the corner, so they'd love it if you came out to support them on the last regular game of the season.

What position do you play?
I play outside hitter and sometimes middle.
What made you choose volleyball?
It being my senior year, I wanted to do as many things as I possibly could before highschool is over... I've always loved sports and trying new things and volleyball seemed perfect!
What is your favorite cheer?
My favorite cheer would have to be our ace cheer and our free ball kill cheer.

What position do you play?
Outside hitter
Why did you choose volleyball?
I wanted to try something new

Tori Harris: #14
Years at Scholars Guild: 1st year
What position do you play?
Outside hitter
Why did you choose volleyball?
A sweet lady where I used to live talked me into giving volleyball a try, and I immediately fell in love with it.
What is your favorite cheer?
The ace cheer (when the bench remembers to chime in lol)
Hayley Norman: #24
Years at Scholars Guild: 2 years
What position do you play?
Technically, I’m a defensive specialist because I only play back row, but I'm usually in for middle back.
Why did you choose volleyball?
I came off of not playing a sport for a good while; I used to do competitive karate and was at a high level (belt rank and competition-wise) before I stopped. Karate is one of the harder sports to transition out of and into another sport and especially with me being so competitive I didn't want to choose something I wouldn't be able to get the hang of fairly quickly. I thought I'd try out volleyball senior year and honestly wish I had done it sooner!!
What is your favorite cheer?
Our ace cheer especially when we yell 'YOU KNOW'
Hannah Torres: #7
Years at Scholars Guild: 1st year
What position do you play?
Setter & right side
Why did you choose volleyball?
I choose volleyball as it is engaging and every play involves multiple people. I also love to be challenged and there is always room for improvement in every aspect of the game. Last, but not least, I am extremely competitive and volleyball allows me to express this side of myself!
What is your favorite cheer?
My favorite cheer is our tip cheer - whenever someone gets a tip we salute the other team and say TIP (it is fun and always makes me smile)
Josie Woosnam: #2
Years at Scholars Guild: 5 years
What position do you play?
I play middle
Why did you choose volleyball?
I chose volleyball because it's tough and I like to push myself and to keep in shape :)
What is your favorite cheer?
I love, 'free ball kill'
Come out tonight to support these girls and the rest of the varsity team as they play Killian Hill at 7pm in the FBCL gym!! The student section will be located close to the back of the gym- look for it when you arrive. Space will be limited and on a first come first served basis. Buy your ticket now at: https://gofan.co/event/1026993?schoolId=GA87832
The theme for the night is Blackout. Come dressed in black, head to toe. Eyeblack, face paint, and signs are encouraged! Make sure to bring lots of energy! Dress for the blackout, make signs, and cheer loud and hard!! We need your support!!! There are a couple of cheers that the volleyball team will teach everyone before the game.
If you use black face paint, please make sure that it does not cover your entire face. Also, you must remain in your clothing/blackout attire at all times. Removal of clothing will result in automatic removal from the game. Make sure to keep all cheers and signs positive and respectful. Just as the team on the court needs to show good sportsmanship, the fans in the stands need to show good sportsmanship as well.
