Oscars 2024 Fashion Review

By Lucy Johnston

The Oscars is an event where people all over the world come together to celebrate and enjoy the works of celebrities we have come to love. While the main purpose of this event is to award those in the movie industry for the work they have done, possibly the biggest reason some of us enjoy this event is the fashion aspect of it. Here are my personal standouts of the 2024 Oscars.

My Favorite Women’s Look:

Jennifer Lawrence:

Simple but elegant, Jennifer Lawrence’s Dior dress has to be my favorite of the night. The pattern, color, and fit all complement each other perfectly, providing a look that, while not extravagant, still quietly turns heads.

My Favorite Men's Look:

Simu Liu:

Simu Liu’s Fendi outfit is 100% my favorite men's look of the night. Once again, his outfit is simple, but it's the details that shine through. The asymmetrical black blazer held together with a silver brooch, the high-heeled shiny black shoes, and the wide-legged fit of the pants all come together to provide a sleek, understated, and simply just cool ensemble. Also, bonus points for posing like the Oscars trophy.

My Least Favorite Look:

Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson:

I hate to say it, but the Rock did not impress with this look. The only words that come to mind when describing these garbs are tin-man, stainless steel refrigerator, and Macbook. The combo of the silver suit and the maroon shirt and shoes clash impressively, but, hey. He’s the Rock. He’s still cool.

Honorable Mentions:

Anya Taylor Joy:

I couldn’t write this article without mentioning this STUNNING Dior dress that Anya Taylor Joy donned on the red carpet. The sparkling silver detailing and flowing petal-like skirt catch the eye beautifully.

Hailee Steinfeld:

I absolutely LOVE this Elie Saab and Chopard gown that Steinfeld wore this year. The color and shape of the skirt provide a fairy/mermaid-like impression, ultimately creating a beautiful and magical aura.

Margot Robbie:

Starting off with the “it” girl of the past few months, Margot Robbie switched out the pink Barbie-inspired looks that we have been seeing, instead opting for a more sleek Versace look. This simplified style, while still stunning, created some room for someone else to take the spotlight on this night…

America Ferrara:

…That someone else being none other than Robbie’s Barbie co-star, America Ferrara. Throughout the promotion of Barbie, Robbie took on all of those bright fun colors, but this time, Ferrara took on that role. With a similar look to Robbie’s gown, Ferrara dazzled in this shiny, streamlined, Barbie-pink, Versace dress.
