High School Musical Jr

By Hayley Norman

Scholars Guild Academy puts on one show per year as a part of the school offered elective theater class. The class begins at 3:15 on Tuesdays, led by Sara Lunsford, works to be ready for the schoolwide performance usually scheduled at the end of April. Combining singing, choreography, and staging, as well as truly impressive set work, the company has put on memorable and well-produced performances each year. The week of the show the cast and crew come together 5-6 hours a day to combine the work done in class with the set, lighting, and sound. Past performances have included shows such as Bye Bye Birdie, Beauty and the Beast, Shrek, and Peter Pan. The company has recently gained status as an official Thespian Troupe, providing eligible students with the opportunity to letter in theater as well as the perks that come with being a part of a Troupe.

This year SGA will be performing High School Musical Jr. The show, based on the Disney Channel Original Movie, follows the story of Gabriella Montez and Troy Bolton, labeled by their peers as Brainiac and Jock respectively. Set in Eastside High, a school that values its cliques and order, they juggle living up to their family and friends' expectations all while trying to be true to themselves and follow their dreams.

There will be three performances, April 26th, 2024 at 7 pm and April 27, 2024, at 2 pm and 6 pm. The final performance will be the senior recognition show, with 11 seniors graduating from the program this year. You can buy tickets online or purchase them at the door using cash or check. Get ready for a night of fun with large ensemble dance numbers, larger-than-life characters, and iconic franchise songs! Come out and support your SGA Spartans Theater Troupe!
