Getting a driver’s license is both exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time. It takes a lot of preparation and work, but it’s all worth it in the end. Looking to get one? Keep reading to find out about the process!
When a person turns fifteen years old, they become eligible for a learner’s permit. While they hold this permit, they are allowed to drive with a licensed adult above the age of 21 in the passenger’s seat.
If the goal is to attain a license by the age of sixteen, a person must:
Hold a learner’s permit for one year and one day.
Take a DDS certified driver’s ed course.
🡪 30 hours of classroom time.
🡪 6 hours of driving with a certified driving instructor.
40 hours of driving time (6 of the 40 must be at night).
Take a certified ADAP (Alcohol and Drug Awareness Program) class.
Once these requirements are met, a person may take the proper paperwork and documentation to a DDS location. They will then attempt the driving test. If they achieve a score of 75% or above, they are able to get their license!
Once a person is seventeen years of age, they can obtain their license without taking a certified drivers ed course, but they still must complete all the other requirements.
While all of this can be confusing, many programs like New London Driving School in Loganville help accomplish all the necessary requirements in order to secure a license.
Having a license allows for more freedom but also requires a ton of responsibility. While it can be scary sometimes, it can also be super fun and a great way to try something new! Good luck!!
