With 2020 coming to an end, there’s a lot to look back on – the good, the bad, and the books! With quarantine, online school, and so much time at home, many people’s love for reading was renewed in 2020. So why not hand off some recommendations? Here are some of the Journalism Club members’ top books of 2020; hopefully, this can help out some burnt-out-bookworms. Special thanks to Vivian for carrying this last-minute list!
#1 – “ Relationship Goals by Michael Todd
“It was about how to have good biblical relationships from the biblical perspective that was really good.” – Savannah Scott
#2 – Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys
“It’s a WW2 novel about a tragic maritime war sinking, and it’s from the perspective of the innocent fleeing east Europeans. It’s very eye-opening and written very well. Oh, and it made me cry.” – Vivian Rice
#3 – The Circle Series by Ted Dekker
“It’s kinda like a Divergent/Maze Runner/Lord of the Rings/Narnia hybrid. It’s really exciting and nearly impossible to put down. All four of them (books in the series) are really good. They aren’t short, but the journey is definitely worth it.” – Daniel Wright
#4 – Empress of All Seasons by Emiko Jean
“Japanese mythology with fantasy, with a surprising twist of romance.” – Vivian Rice
#5 – The Blossom and the Firefly by Sherri L. Smith
“The story of the end of the war through the eyes of ordinary kids in Japan, poetically beautiful.” – Vivian Rice
#6 – The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale
“An easy read about finding your true voice.” – Vivian Rice
#7 – Anthem by Ayn Rand
“The mother of all dystopian novels.” – Daniel Wright
