Best (Worst) Xmas Movies

Best (Worst) Christmas Movies

By Ensley Weaver

Looking for some new holiday movies to binge during Christmas Break? These movies capture all of the heartwarming feels while making you slightly cringe at some of the dialogue. Let’s get into it!

The Princess Switch

Where to watch: Netflix

An article from The Theaudestcooper recaps how "Stacy, a type-A planner with a penchant for schedules, takes a spontaneous trip to the charming land of Belgravia at the suggestion of her sous chef and best friend, Kevin. While preparing for the Royal Christmas Baking Contest, Stacy faces an identical stranger and a strange request. Free-spirited but royally obligated, all Duchess Margaret Delacourt really wants is one last chance to experience life as a "normal person" before she dutifully marries the Crown Prince of Belgravia. Stacy can give her that wish."

Personal notes: If you are a fan of rom-coms, this film is right up your alley! This movie also touches on the importance of helping others, building your identity, and learning how to step out of your comfort zone. I recommend this for all ages!

Midnight at the Magnolia

Where to watch: Netflix

Midnight at the Magnolia follows childhood friends Maggie and Jack, who co-host a popular radio show in Chicago. Facing pressure from their families to find love, they pretend to be in a romantic relationship to boost their show’s popularity. As they spend more time together, their fake romance starts to feel real, and they begin to confront their true feelings. Set against the festive backdrop of the holidays, they must decide whether to take a leap into love or keep their relationship in the friend zone.

Personal notes: If you like the fake-dating and found family trope, you need to watch this right now! I loved the emphasis on the importance of family, especially when you grow up. This cozy movie is a great pick for family movie night!

Wrapped Up in Christmas

Where to watch: YouTube

With Christmas just around the corner, an eight-year-old girl asks the mall Santa to find a boyfriend for her beloved aunt. Tbh, I dozed off for the second half, so I have no idea how it ended, but it was wacky - so watch it!

Personal note: Guys, this movie is one of the worst Christmas movies I've ever seen. I wanted to bleach my eyes, scream, and hide in my closet for a week. Anyone with enough bravery will love/despise this film. Enjoy!

Spirited

Where to watch: Apple TV

Spirited is a musical comedy that reimagines A Christmas Carol with a modern twist. It follows Clint Briggs, a cynical media consultant, who is visited by the Ghost of Christmas Present, played by Will Ferrell. Together, they attempt to reform Clint, but their journey takes an unexpected turn as they develop a deeper emotional connection.

Personal note: This movie was the easiest to sit through compared to the previous ones on the list and has the most amount of songs. There were many funny jokes, and it is perfect to watch with the whole family!
