What the Bible Says about Spring

By S.K. Bacon

As flowers begin to grow, birds start to sing, and the cold weather of winter slowly dies away, it's evident that spring has arrived. This season of renewal and rebirth holds profound significance in various cultures, but especially in Christian culture! It’s not just Easter Sunday, though — the Bible offers insight into the spiritual significance of spring, weaving together themes of hope, renewal, and the promise of new beginnings. In this article, we’re going to discuss what the Word shows and tells us about spring.

“Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains.”  —James 5:7

  • This verse reminds us to wait patiently and faithfully for the Lord and his perfect timing. Just like how He provides for plants, He provides for us.

“Faithfulness springs forth from the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven. The Lord will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest. Righteousness goes before him and prepares the way for his steps.” —Psalm 85:11-13

  • Kind of like the verse from James, this verse from Psalm 85 reassures us of God’s goodness, and promises blessings for the one that follows Him faithfully.

For behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land. —Song of Solomon 2:11-12

  • As winter is a symbol of death, so spring is also a symbol of new life and rebirth. When we put our faith in Jesus, we are reborn in Him!

Sow righteousness for yourselves and reap faithful love; break up your unplowed ground. It is time to seek the Lord until he comes and sends righteousness on you like the rain.” —Hosea 10:12

  • You take what you give, right? It’s important to value holy and righteous things instead of things not approved by the Lord. This verse also reassures us that God will bless us for our righteousness. (This is also my favorite Bible verse currently :))
