To begin the school year, we all gathered around in a circle and listened to the Beta members tell us about the different topics we were praying for, including our nation, school, veterans, and family. They had many great Bible verses for us to think about and pray over this entire school year. Then the prayer leaders led us in prayer. The event made me very hopeful about how this year was going to go, and I am excited to see what the new school year brings us!
What is See You at the Pole?
SYATP is a student-led event where all of the students gather around to pray for our community, nation, and our school year. It started in 1990 when a group of students gathered around a flag pole to pray for their community, and it is now practiced in many schools all over the U.S.
Here is an interview with the Beta Club coordinator, Mrs. Payton:
Q: What is your role in Beta Club?
A: I am the Beta Club coordinator.
Q: Were you in Beta Club when you were in high school?
A: Yes! I was.
Q: Did you participate in See You at the Pole at the school you went to?
A: “No, sadly I did not, but I don’t know if it was around back then." (Author's note: She is right! SYATP started in 1990.)
Q: Where did you go to high school?
A: A small high school in Chattanooga.
Q: Why do you think See You at the Pole is important for the school community?
A: Because I believe that where many gather, Christ is among them. Also, I have had many experiences where even adults don't want to pray out loud, so the students can be leaders by leading prayers and showing adults how to do it.
Q: How have you seen See You at the Pole grow since you have been at SGA?
A: There are many more students, and it is more student-led.
Thank you to all of the Beta members who made this possible! And a special thank you to Kate Hammons, the Beta Club president, and Mrs. Payton, the Beta Club coordinator! SYATP had an amazing turnout this year!
