Senior Farewell

As graduation draws near, I am reaching the end of a unique stage of life: high school. When I began my freshman year, people told me to enjoy this time because it would fly by. Guess what? They were right. While algebra and chemistry made time crawl agonizingly by, I still cannot believe that the sun is about to set on this part of my life.

So here I am joining the countless number of people who give high schoolers the same advice every year because now I understand. Enjoy it. Make the most of it. Is it all going to be fun times? No. Are you going to struggle and experience difficulty? Absolutely. But there is always a silver lining, and always a bright future to be working toward. These four years shape us into the adults that we will become. If we persevere through the difficult school subjects, the drama, and the stress, these struggles will only make our future selves stronger.

Ephesians 5:15-16 says, “See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” We are not going to live forever. A morbid thought, I know, but it’s important that we remember this. Our time on this earth is our most precious resource, and it is limited. Our youth is also limited. Keeping this in mind helps prevent wasting this exciting era of our lives.

So here’s to making the most of the high school years. High school and the teenage years only come once in a lifetime, so make the memories, conquer the challenges, and above all, remember our ultimate purpose in life: “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all” (Ecclesiastes 12:13).
