Ahh, Christmas, the most wonderful time of year, the season of giving. Any season is a good time for service projects, but Christmas is an especially great time for really getting involved. "How might I do this," you may ask? Well, your local church is a great place to start. Many churches have or participate in local mission outreach, if you can, try to volunteer. Not only will volunteering help the church and the people they are helping, but it will help you grow and become a better person.
Another way to spread joy during this holiday season is to visit a nursing home. Not all of these elderly people have a family to visit them, and it could be a lonely time for them. They would love to have someone come and spend some time with them, and this would be an excellent opportunity to share the gospel with them.
Yet another way you can participate is with an outreach known as Operation Christmas Child. The Samaritan's Purse uses gift-filled shoe boxes to reach and share the gospel with children all around the world. It's a fantastic way to give and impact lives! Many churches and groups participate in it and even act as drop off centers. It's simple and easy. All that you do is get a shoe box and fill it with a 'wow' item and other things the child might need; it's good to write a note as well. It's a great thing that OCC is doing; in countries all over the world, children are getting the opportunity to hear the gospel!
There are countless ways to get involved over Christmas break, but it's really up to you to decide if you will take advantage of them. I only mentioned three ideas, but there are many more with which to volunteer. Christmas is so much more meaningful if you give your time to a good cause; when you think of all the things that God has done for you.
