Make Up Your Own Holiday Day

By Carter James

There are two types of holidays: official and unofficial. Official holidays are sanctioned by the government, and they usually include a day off from work, or the like. Holidays like Christmas or Independence Day are considered official holidays in the U.S. On the other hand, unofficial holidays don’t normally include days off, and are not sanctioned by the government. They usually involve small, random things, like dogs or cookies, or even humpback whales. But did you know that there is a specific day dedicated to literally anything? That day is March 26, and the day is known as “Make Up Your Own Holiday Day”.

These days, it seems like there’s a holiday for just about everything, until you find out that not everything has a holiday. That’s what March 26 is here for: to make your dream holiday a reality. To celebrate, think about something that you would like to celebrate. It can be general, specific, or even personal to you. Then, you celebrate and even document it as if it was an official holiday; simple as that.

To me, this day is a celebration of the world, despite Earth day’s existence. March 26 is a celebration of culture and life, a celebration of skies and seas, a celebration of people and places. It is a celebration of everything within God’s creation, and that’s the most important part about this day, known as “Make Up Your Own Holiday Day”. The next time March 26 comes, think about this perspective, and carry on with these words in your mind and body.
