High Museum of Art

I visited the High Museum of Art in Atlanta over winter break and there were a lot of really cool pieces that I wanted to research! So if you haven’t gone to the museum of art, are a regular visitor, or are thinking about going, I hoped you might enjoy seeing a couple of my favorite pieces and reading some information on them! :)



Still Life of Roses

Artist/Maker: Anna Eliza Hardy Date:1880–1895


Anna Eliza Hardy ( born January 26,1839– died December 15,1934) was a painter in a 19th century school of painters in Bangor, Maine. She was the daughter of Jeremiah Pearson Hardy, who was a famous portrait painter in Bangor. Hardy was especially known for her floral paintings, of which The Roses is one of the most well-known.



Washington Bridge, Harlem River

Artist/Maker Ernest Lawson Date ca. 1915


Ernest Lawson (born March 22, 1873 – died December 18, 1939) was a Canadian-American painter. Though Lawson was primarily a landscape painter, he also painted a small number of realistic urban scenes. Though considered an American Impressionist, Lawsons paintings are something between Impressionism and realism.



The Sea from Capri

Artist/Maker: William Stanley Date: Haseltine 1875


William Stanley Haseltine ( born June 11, 1835 – died February 3, 1900) was an American painter. He was born in Philadelphia to John Haseltine, a successful businessman, and Elizabeth Shinn Haseltine, a beginner landscape painter. Haseltine studied at Harvard University, where he received a degree in 1854.



Woodland Stream, An Idyll

Artist/Maker: Robert S. Duncanson Date: ca. 1865


Robert Seldon Duncanson ( born 1821 – died December 21, 1872) was a nineteenth century American artist of European and African ancestry known mostly for his landscape paintings. Duncanson created amazing landscape paintings!
