On the edge about entering the quickly-approaching Creativity Contest? These past winners will tell you all about their experiences. There are always many different winners from each grade/category and I interviewed three different past winners about their pieces that won!
Emmi Cate’s winning piece: Olaf presents Aladdin
Brooke’s winning piece: Amelia and Her Ladies of Fashion
I interviewed Brooke Patterson in 7th grade, Emmi Cate Henderson in 9th grade, and finally Nick Fagan in 12th Grade.
Here are the interviews!
Q: What was your winning piece all about?
A: (Brooke) “My piece was kind of like King Arthur and the Knights of The Round Table, but instead of Knights, it was ladies, and instead of pulling a sword out of a stone, it was fitting a shoe on a marble stone. So it also incorporated the Cinderella story.”
A: (Emmi Cate) “My video was a re-creation of an Olaf Presents. The one I used was "Olaf Presents Aladdin," which was a "recap" of all the events that took place in the movie Aladdin.”
A: (Nick) “I performed a song called "The Final Countdown" by the 80s band Europe. It was basically just the solo which has always been one of my favorites!”
Q: In the creativity contest, you can enter up to three pieces, but is that what you would suggest? Do you think it would be more beneficial for people to put a bunch of different submissions in, or one stunning piece they have worked very hard on?
A: (Brooke) “I personally would put out one or two pieces that I've worked hard on because honestly, either I don't have time to make more, or I'm too lazy to get around to making more!”
A: (Emmi Cate) “I think if you just submit one entry that you work on and put a lot of effort into it, you have a better chance than submitting three that you don't work as hard on.”
A: (Nick) “I believe that it would be best to fully focus on one submission and put your ALL into that. One stunning piece will always catch people's eyes and it's also easier for them to decide!”
Q: How did winning the creativity contest change your life….was it amazing getting to know you beat your classmates?
A: (Brooke) “It was great to know I beat my classmates, and I really wanted that candy!”
A: (Emmi Cate) “Winning the contest felt great. I feel like a lot of people know me from the video I made, which is fun.”
A: (Nick) “Winning made me feel really great and accomplished. I really enjoy playing electric guitar, and being able to share my God-given gift with others is a true blessing!”
Q: If you won again and could choose any candy to get, what would it be?
A: (Brooke) “Probably Nerd Clusters or King-size Twix.”
A: (Emmi Cate) “If I won again I would probably pick a Hershey's bar. I love them.”
A: (Nick) “Definitely Reese's!”
Q: What inspired you to do your submission?
A: (Brooke) “I had been thinking about doing that storyline all year because we had just done the story about Arthur in IEW class.”
A: (Emmi Cate) “I would say I picked the video I did because it was the one that made me laugh the most. It was also just so fun to film and make.”
A: (Nick) “My main inspiration was that I wanted to see the competition and talent that others had to offer and be able to show what I have to offer.”
Q: Why would you encourage people to enter the creativity contest?
A: (Brooke) “It's super fun writing a story or submitting a video of yourself, and it's always fun to win and get candy!”
A: (Emmi Cate) “I think the contest is great for making memories with friends and even with yourself. When you enter something that you love to do, whether it is art, music, videos, or any of the other categories, you know that everyone else will see it and probably love it too.”
A: (Nick) “It's a great way to see where you are at, what you may need to work on (practice more with...), and/or show what you can do!”
I hope y'all decide to enter the creativity contest. I have entered photography in it, and it’s so fun to be a part of it! Thank you to the past winners for being willing to be interviewed!
