Hey guys, it’s Olivia! In this article, I’m going to be recommending to you some of my all-time favorite books. These would be great books to read over any break, and I know that reading over break doesn’t sound fun to everyone, but I think I’ve picked out some great books everyone will like!
The Wingfeather Saga
I read The Wingfeather Saga when I was in middle school, and it was MY FAVORITE. Basically, the book series follows the life of a small family, the Wingfeathers. It is full of adventure and mystery, something that I LOVE. This is a series for any age, even though it is sort of geared for younger grade levels (5th--middle school).
Island of the Blue Dolphins
I must have read this book at least a hundred times. It’s a story of a girl’s survival on her native island after her family leaves, and she’s left behind. This was a perfect book for me, and I recommend this to anyone who likes stories about survival. There is a wolf attack, but that’s the most graphic part of the book. I think this book can be enjoyed by everyone, but it may be a bit short for upperclassmen.
The Mysterious Benedict Society
This book series is one of the only that has made me cry. The reason? I didn’t want it to end. After meeting the four main characters, you will understand as well. I’d recommend this series to those in middle school and up. The books are relatively big (about 391 pgs) and the plotlines are great as well.
The Sinclair’s Mysteries Series
In this series, a group of friends go on quests through each book, solving the mystery and becoming closer to each other in each one. The mystery will draw you in, and by the end, you will wonder how you didn’t see the result before. These are a MUST.
Agatha Christie’s Mysteries
I got into these a few years ago when I heard about Murder on the Orient Express. After reading it, my love for murder mysteries was born. If you do not like the thought of gruesome things and blood, please spare yourself some sanity and do not read her murders. However, if you love that kind of stuff, her books are for you. I recommend reading the books that include Hercules Poirot because I just find those more entertaining than her other heroin. Two really good books of hers are Murder On the Nile and And Then There Were None. These books are definitely for high school, due to the reader possibly being disturbed by some of the graphics in her books. Make sure to know yourself and your limits before reading these great books.
Mrs. Peregrin’s Home for Peculiar Children
Ok, and finally, here is a book (or actually a series, but I haven’t read all of them, so for now, I’m just talking about the first book) that is totally awesome. It has some really creepy aspects to it, but to me, that’s just thrilling. I recommend reading this book in the day if you get creeped out easily. It is a story of a boy named Jacob, his newfound powers, and finding a place to fit in. This book has mystery, romance, murder, and all that amazing stuff that goes into an award-winning book. I say that this book is mostly for high school, just because of all the really creepy stuff in it. All in all, it is an amazing book.
And that’s it! Six fun books to read while drinking hot cocoa near the fire, or while sitting outside on your hammock. Now, I know what you're thinking, “What about Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Little Women??” I know, I know. The purpose of this list is to possibly introduce new books you’ve never heard of. I have so many other books that I love, and if you would like more, feel free to find me and talk to me because I most definitely can help you find a book just right for you! Hopefully, this will help you figure out something to do while “quarantined” during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season. Happy reading!
