A Senior's Perspective: Life After Graduation

Updated: Jul 5, 2022

Let’s be honest: senior year is one of the hardest years of high school. From college application deadlines to final classes and trying to fulfill graduation requirements, the last year of high school brings a lot of stress. However, it can also be one of the most exciting times in a student’s high school career. After everything is said and done, there’s a lot of planning that goes into life after graduation, and a few of our seniors here at SGA have given insight into their feelings about said planning and what their thoughts are after high school.

Natalie Maguire, an outgoing member of the SLC, says that she intends on going to college. Her desired college and program or major? “Not sure what college I want to go to, but I want to stay in the Southeast. I plan to study something related to health, maybe Kinesiology or Exercise Science!” For those who don’t know, kinesiology is the science of human movement, and it can often be applied to biology, exercise and athletics. She also noted that she “is ready to see what the next chapters of my life look like. I'm not sure what the plan is, but I know [He] does.” That’s a great mindset to have, one that will surely get her far in life.

When asked what she wants to do after graduation, Jewel Fiji replied that she is “hopefully gonna be studying abroad to get to med school.” The study abroad program she is looking at, Verto Education, will be offering her a spot in their London program. While she feels hopeful about post-graduation life, she also notes feeling like “all motivation got sucked up by a vacuum, and I feel like a leaf that got washed down the drain into the sewers and I'm witnessing a child get kidnapped by a clown with a red balloon.” Honestly Jewel, there’s probably quite a few other seniors who feel the same way.

Daniel Wright, sports writer for the Guild Gazette, admits he’s “just tired of doing homework.” On behalf of every other senior (and probably student) ever, same. Anyone who’s ever been up at 2 a.m. still doing schoolwork because of a ridiculously heavy load understands the struggle. While he says he’s not sure about what college he wants to attend yet, he does plan on pursuing a degree in digital media or communications.

To the class of 2022, whether you choose to pursue a college degree, go straight into the workforce, or anything in between, we wish you the best of luck with whatever you pursue after graduation.
