Spring break has ended. As sad as that may be, it also signals the countdown to Summer! I don’t know about you guys, but I have so many plans for summer vacation! Mostly finding a job to make some money!!!!!
But…… it’s not summer just yet! Nope, we still have a couple more weeks of school left! While summer is right around the corner, we cannot forget the work that comes before. Many teachers find the period between spring break and summer vacation the time when students start to lose focus and not work as hard. Yes, I’m guilty of doing that as well---you’re not alone. You have lengthy essays, fat projects, stressful finals, and nerve-wracking exams before school lets out for summer. It seems so tedious, how will you ever manage to finish all of your assignments? Here’s a tip: don’t worry too much!
Yes, you will need to study in advance for the tests and work hard on those projects; but don’t stress yourself out to the point where you’re bawling your eyes out every night. 1 Peter 5:7 says, “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” There’s a difference between preparing well and flat out “freaking out” over the future. My point is to study well for the upcoming exams and work diligently on your projects, yet don’t be overly anxious. Let the Lord take care of tomorrow.
Another note is that the commitment that you had at the beginning of the school year is probably fading at this point. Don’t try to fool me, I am also in that boat, it’s natural, teachers are tired too. However, this is the time to prove that you can finish the year strong and mayyyyyyybe raise your grade average a bit to avoid / exempt that final exam.
Mrs. Strange is SGA’s wonderful and amazing Habitudes teacher. Habitudes is a Christ-centered leadership class that empowers students to learn how to lead with Christ-like habits and attitudes. In the Habitudes 1 class, they (and me) recently finished a project where they had to make their own leadership principle and teach the class on it. My project was about commitment, and how leaders need to complete their tasks as well as they can, even with failures. This principle doesn’t just speak to leaders, anyone can apply it to their lives, especially students. One of our wonderful journalism leaders and graduating seniors April Breedlove, has given an inspiring quote: “You’ll feel more accomplished in the end if you finish strong rather than giving up at the end.”
It’s the end of the year, and I KNOW my brain isn’t the only one wandering to thoughts of warm beaches and sunny summer days. Persevere until the end! 2 Chronicles 15:7 says, “But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.” At the last journalism meeting, one of our fearless leaders, Lydia Rice who is also a senior graduating and my older sister, said this: “It’s the end of the year! Don’t lose heart!” Take some advice from a senior! Don’t slack off and regret your decision when you see that final grade. Work diligently, and before you know it, summer will have come!
Proverbs 10:4 says, “A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.” I don’t know about you guys, but “rich” for me would be a nice 4.0 GPA and a sweet A+ overall grade. The end of this school year is near.
In the future, when you look back on your year, how will you want to remember it? What is “rich” to you?
Added Note: If this article came out after the school year ended, then CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! YOU MADE IT THROUGH!! To parents, students, and teachers alike, here’s to a good and successful year of education and perseverance. Summer has begun!!! (Throwback Tinkerbell quote).
