Where I Brainwash You Into Joining Journalism Club

Did you know studies prove that once a person is aware of bias or that they could be being lied to, they're often just as susceptible?

It may seem crazy, but I want you to remember that I am 100 percent biased as you continue to read.

Ever felt bogged down by school? Unhappy with your life? Need more things to add to your college application?

Well, fear not! Journalism Club is guaranteed to fix all your problems and probably make you a millionaire too.

Picture this, you walk into a room with a skip in your step. Why are you skipping? Because the minute you walk into Journalism Club, people are infused with a sense of happiness and purpose.

And why not?

There's a cute, hilarious cactus mascot. There's plenty of snacks to throw at people, specifically Michael Powell. And, there are those magical packets of joy that are Capri-suns.

Google, the company, loves to post pictures of giant slides in their buildings and likewise, Journalism Club has hula hoops and musical bops like “Baby Shark.”

Ever had writer's block? That's never a problem at JC headquarters. We sing, drum on tables at times, and hula hoop---all proven methods of brainstorming.

People are generally expected to write one thing a month, so that's plenty of time to really get creative. Everyone meets their deadlines. More importantly, we have the most epic t-shirt designs - t-shirts we can wear to school after every publication.

GSPA Conference

Meetings flow totally smoothly and sometimes we even go to UGA for the awesome Journalism GSPA conference where you listen to experts speak on building a brand, writing editorials, or being a good leader and even submit articles for awards.

If I haven't convinced you by now, here's the great part, you don't have to be a writer! Journalism Club is looking to expand into multimedia, so we welcome people who want to edit videos, run social media, and help with website layout.

But if you are a writer, then that's great too! Every month, and sometimes twice a month, members get their articles published. What can you write about? Well, it's up to you! While you can always brainstorm ideas in the meeting and a lot of members work with the theme of that issue, ultimately we encourage writing what you're passionate about.

Either way, Journalism Club teaches and implements valuable life skills that will get you into any college you want. Harvard? Yale? Brown? The world is your oyster after joining JC. Imagine admissions officers just tripping over themselves to accept your application.

Okay, see what I mean? You should feel at least a little hyped, even though I'm obviously biased. And that's because, in this case at, my most excellent Journalism Club propaganda was all pretty true.

The GSPA conference was great. We do hula hoop alarmingly often in meetings. Our cactus mascot Charlie Prickles is the best.

But, it's certainly a rose-colored side of things.

Here's the tea.

Someone's computer is always dying and the plugs are kinda hard to reach. (Someone should really bring an extension cord and one of those giant plug boxes now that I think about it.)

Charlie Prickles has been absent for the last two months because he had to recover after I killed him. (Hehe, oops)

We didn't get the t-shirts done for a solid 4 months. (Again, oops, that'd be me)

Cramming interviews into your school life and getting articles done right before the deadline can be quite standard. …Which is a whole lot better than our “deadline? What deadline?” moments.

But despite the craziness, despite the drama, despite the moments where you have no idea what you want to write, Journalism Club really is a great community.

It’s fun to get to know other students through interviews and go around pestering people for information. It's great to have people to help edit if you have a huge paper for school or a college admissions essay. It's exhilarating to have your article published and see yourself improve throughout the year.

So be on the lookout for Journalism Club applications!
