The Beautiful Language of Flowers

Flowers.

Who doesn’t love flowers? I love the flowers of the earth! Let me clarify on this matter: Fragrant and vivacious flowers are incredibly gorgeous, all I have to do is look at them and appreciate their beauty! I DO NOT enjoy getting in the dirt, yanking up weeds and dragging the hose from the other side of the house to water flowers.

Flowers have many meanings, both literally and symbolically. Giving them to a person can mean goodwill, sympathy or an attraction, it depends on how you give them to a person.

In both a literal and symbolic term, flowers carry meanings, otherwise known as the Language of Flowers. For instance, a yellow daffodil means new beginnings, the coming of spring, creativity, inspiration, memory, and forgiveness. Another example is the iris, it means royalty, wisdom, valor, faith, and hope.

Some flower meanings are pretty obvious, if you give red roses to a girl, it means you like or love her. That flower is fairly easy to guess its meaning. But if I asked you what the meaning of the edelweiss flower is, would you know it? Probably not, the meaning of the edelweiss flower is bravery and courage. I only know that because I googled it.

Here’s a small list of flowers and their meanings, I’m bringing my very limited biology knowledge into this. Flowers in spring symbolize rebirth and renewal, and I’m ready for my brain to be refreshed.

Google has never been so helpful.

Aster- Wisdom, and devotion.

Calla Lily- Innocence and purity.

Chrysanthemum- Loyalty and love.

Heather- Good luck.

Lilac- Tranquility, and passion.

Orchid- Admiration and innocence.

Peony- Romance and prosperity.

Purple violet- Thoughts filled with love.

Yellow rose- Warm feelings of friendship.

Pink Camellia- Longing for someone and affection.

Pink Carnation- The love of a mother or a woman.

Yellow Carnation- Rejection, disdain, and disappointment.

Hydrangea- Deep, heartfelt emotions.

White Lily- Modesty, and virginity.

Snapdragon- Graciousness, and strength.

Who was I kidding? Nobody! That list was NOT short or brief at all, it was nearly a page long in Microsoft Word. On another note, flowers are beautiful, one of God’s amazing creations. For your lovely convenience, I have included a link or two if you’re interested and possibly intrigued by this topic. Seriously, it took me a while to find some of the better sites out there. There’s just so many flowers and meanings to them that I only compiled the more known flowers into the list. You can thank me later, I’m just so humble.

“Consider how the wildflowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.” Luke 12:27

I believe this shows how wonderful and precious God thinks his flowers are, even Solomon, the wisest man who lived, couldn’t compare to the wildflowers’ beauty.

Flowers do not care what they look like, or what they’re going to wear. God makes those choices for them, all flowers do is sit still and look pretty (yes I know I just quoted a song).

Live your life like a flower! Trust in God and carry out your day according to his plan!
