A True Slice of Life Using Comics From Yours Truly

This issue has the fabulous yet mystifying theme of Fallout, and I admit wholeheartedly that I almost had no idea what to do for the subject. When I posted the flyer for the artwork wanted back before Fall Break, (I’m counting down the weeks until Thanksgiving Break) I’ll be honest in saying I kind of expected I would get no emails with artwork, but I had faith! The theme was challenging to be creative with, and lots of people don’t want to share their artwork, especially publicly or in fear of missing the idea or not doing a “good enough” job on their art. I’m an artist myself, and I know this foreboding and prickling sensation of nervousness when it comes to presenting my art.

The thing is, I believe failure or falling outs make us stronger in character. Constructive criticism also is very beneficial, especially if you’re an artist. But let’s be real, who actually likes failing? Falling outs build us up as long as we learn from them. That’s what I gathered from the theme that I still don’t completely understand. I remember going to my older sister’s room multiple times pestering her with what the theme meant precisely, and she got very annoyed with me the fourth time I asked. Sisters, I love them (most of the time). Because I got no artwork, I drew my own the night before the deadline for having articles finished. Don’t procrastinate, you middle and elementary students! It will come back to bite you in high school, and you will most definitely not be happy.

The story is fictional, but the struggles and problems are not. Don’t let falling outs ruin life; things will get better unless you’ve dropped food on the ground and it’s inedible anymore. Then you might want to start panicking. As I’m writing this at 11:51 pm when I should be studying for that biology test or doing literature homework, I present to you “Vivian’s Comic Strip of Falling Outs of Life.”

Fun fact, the story is based on Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst. It’s a fantastic book; read it!
