The past month we started school, sports, and new friendships and a way we did this at SGA was to hold SGA 360°. This all started with all the high schoolers at SGA. We had pizza, drinks and if you won the scavenger hunt you got a pack of sour Skittles. This was a night for all the Scholars Guild high school students, old and new, to get to know each other and create new friendships. This is how the night went down……….
You walk up to the parking lot with the sun beating down on your back and you see kids playing with beach balls and eating melted M&M’s. There's a table with a jar of Skittles and you have to guess how many there are. You go to your group that has the color on your wristband and you say your name and grade. You wait with the people in your group for the pizza. You are sweating a little bit because that sun is right on your face. You see that the Papa John’s car has pulled up and you start getting excited. The smell of pizza fills the air. You hope that you get to go first. You get in line, start talking to the people around you, and learn a little bit about them like their grade and name. You grab your pizza and find a group of people to sit with. You really get to know them and like them, and are so glad that you came.
The door opens and you head in. A pastor comes in and tells you what you’re going to do for the remainder of the night. The 11th and 12th graders leave and go to the gym while the 9th and 10th graders form groups of ten and start the scavenger hunt. You skip to the first station, lock arms for the second, walk backward, and then sprint to the worship center and hope that you won. YOU WON! You catch your breath for a little while and wait for the other groups to come back. After taking pictures and waiting for the juniors and seniors, it is time to go to the gym and play games. The girls are on one side trying to pull each other into a trash can and the boys are doing the same thing on the other side. The “last man standing" does not happen in this game. No one can win this. We finish up game time with one last game.
After this, you head to a great time of worship and to listen to a message, followed by discussion in grade-level small groups. This allows you to wind down and reflect on the evening and the year ahead. You realize that the evening at SGA 360° was a great time of (new) friends, fun, and fellowship.
