Michael Powell
I am going to keep this short and sweet. As many of you know, this year marks 10 years
since a baby Scholars Guild started in First Baptist Church Loganville. In 2009, Scholars Guild operated in a basement with four teachers and twelve students. The next year they moved to the Education Building at First Baptist Church Loganville, where we meet to this day. Right now, we have 41 staff and teachers and over 300 students. That’s just a slight improvement from the 60 or so students that we had in our first year at FBCL.
I am having a little trouble thinking of how to make this a whole article, but I’m here to
introduce a theme for the year. I know you are all dying to know what it is. The theme is “10,”
and throughout the school year, we will be posting articles that somehow relate to the number 10. These “10” themed articles are to honor 10 years of preparing “young adults who will be the leaders of their generation and impact others with the truth of Jesus Christ.”
What you need to know is that for the rest of the school year, you will constantly be
hearing about the number 10. In each of our publications, we will have at least one article that has something to do with 10. Whether it be top 10 favorite recipes or 10 places you should visit, it will be in there somewhere!
Over the 10 years at the FBCL building, many changes have come to SGA. I would like
to point out two major ones in this brief article. The first one I would like to mention is the
advancement of our technology. Our wonderful Mrs. Brothers will be demonstrating this change.
In the early years of Scholars Guild, she used an overhead projector. Today she uses a fancy Mimio.
The second major change I would like to mention is the new logo! This change is more
recent, but it is a change nonetheless!
After looking at all these changes, I wonder what someone will be writing about in 2029!
I can see the title now, “20 Years and We’re Still Going.” As we look back on how far we’ve
come over the years, I can’t help but think how much we will continue to grow and what the
future looks like for Scholars Guild Academy!
