Fall Music Recommendations

The fall season is finally upon us. The time of pumpkin spice and crunchy leaves, but along with that comes new music to enjoy. There is plenty of music out there that perfectly encapsulates the feeling of the fall season. I’m here to show you along the way in your musical discovery.

This Empty Northern Hemisphere - Gregory Alan Isakov

This beautiful folk album mixes poetic lyrics with beautiful acoustic instrumentals to create one of the most incredible albums of all time. This album radiates the feeling of nature and Fall and comes together into a beautiful creation. My favorite track on the album is “Master & A Hound”, a song written about a Snowglobe. This is a must listen for any fans of Country or Folk music or anyone who enjoys expertly crafted lyrics.

The Lumineers - The Lumineers

The self-titled debut album from the band, The Lumineers, brings incredible Country style vocals together with out-of-this-world instrumentals. If you enjoyed the last one, you are definitely going to enjoy this one. My favorite track on this album is either “Stubborn Love” or “Flowers in Your Hair,” both of which are beautiful songs which share the feelings around the beauty and struggles of love. This album is another one that emits fall vibes with the acoustic guitar and vocals. It gives off the feeling of sitting on your porch as the leaves fall all around you.

Parachutes - Coldplay

This album, like the others, tells a story with beautiful instrumentals, mainly acoustic guitar. It uses genius lyrics to share deep emotions. The songs all feel like the time in fall, just before the weather has transformed into winter. My favorite part of this album is the song “Sparks,” a song about a love rekindling, and the idea of seeing “sparks” in the eyes of someone who you once loved. Chris Martin delivers chilling yet intriguing vocals on this album, which fit perfectly with the somber feeling of the tracks.

Landslide - Fleetwood Mac

This time, a song instead of an album, but a song beautiful enough to compete with the other choices. This song once again tells the story of love, but the not so positive side of it. Mixed with the pretty guitar in the background, Stevie Nicks delivers some of the best vocals to be heard. This song feels like growing up, and how it feels to be unsure of your next steps in life. An all time classic song that should never be forgotten.

Time After Time - Iron and Wine

Time After Time,” originally performed by Cindy Lauper, is a timeless song about love and about being there for someone, no matter what. The rendition of this song by Iron and Wine strips back the complex instrumentals and changes them to a soft, acoustic song. The vocals are more relaxed, and the overall feeling of the song is completely different. The original song, still beautiful, is a pop style song with eccentric vocals and loud instruments; Iron and Wine abandons this feeling for a new style. This song explains the feelings of sticking with someone, despite the hardships of a new and ever changing life.

We’re Going to Be Friends - The White Stripes

This final song expresses the feeling of a new year and of new stages of life perfectly. Singing about a new school year, and meeting new friends, with yet another acoustic song on this list (what a surprise)! The guitar is simple enough to highlight the soft and pretty vocals of Jack White. This song brings out great feelings of walking down the sidewalk in the fall while leaves fall around you. Bonus points if you know this song from Napoleon Dynamite.

That's all I have for you; thank you all for reading! If you enjoyed these songs, feel free to check out the Spotify playlist linked below for more music! Hopefully everyone finds a new song to listen to from this list. :)
